How do you measure the TJ when using 2-3-4 boards such as in a large HS meet?
To measure the Triple Jump across multiple boards with the Gill Laser Device, you use a "Zero Point" (Datum) setup:
Set a Reference: You "zero" the laser at a fixed point, usually the back of the landing pit or a primary take-off board.
Use Board Offsets: Instead of moving the laser, you simply add or subtract the known distance between the boards (e.g., the difference between the 32' and 36' boards) from the total measurement.
Digital Adjustment: Most units allow you to pre-program these board distances so you can toggle between them on the screen, automatically giving you the correct mark regardless of which board the athlete used.
In short: The laser stays in one spot, and you just adjust the digital "starting line" on the device to match the board being jumped from.
